So, when it comes to midsize family sedans there’s really only two names that most people think of: that’s the Toyota Camry and of course the Honda Accord. This Accord has been around for a long, long time and many generations of people have owned these for their family vehicle. That’s why it’s such a big deal when a new generation comes out! We recently spent some time at the LA Auto Show Checking out the all-new 2023 Honda Accord. Is this the best Accord yet? Keep reading to find out!

Exterior Design and Features

The exterior design has been completely overhauled for the 2023 Accord, but it continues to build upon and carry its long-lasting heritage. The introduction of a bolder grille and more sophisticated lines really gives the Accord a handsome new look. There will definitely be some design and color variations based on which one of the six trim levels you opt for. Full LED headlights with an LED daytime running light will be standard in a new design. The mirrors will come standard with heating and Blind Spot Monitoring and will either be body colored or black. For the wheels, a variety of designs are offered, with 17-inch alloy wheels all the way up to 19-in alloys.

The side design of the Accord has also seen a redesign, where it has been extended by 2.8-inches overall, now making it 195.7-inches in length. The Accord continues to feature a sloping roofline, adding to its sporty appearance. The changes continue around to the rear of the vehicle, where Honda has implemented similar design changes as they did to the front. The LED taillights have been completely redesigned and stretch across the entirety of the rear of the car. The lower fascia has also seen some changes, and it doesn’t seem like we will have any exposed exhausts.

Honda continues to offer all of its standard safety systems with the Honda Sensing Suite:

  • Forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, auto high beams, and adaptive cruise control
  • Low speed braking control is available on the Touring

Paired with these safety features will be a Basic and Powertrain warranty, of which we are unsure to its extent yet.

Interior Design and Features
The changes don’t stop once you get to the interior of this all-new Accord. As seen in many of the recently unveiled Honda products, there is a new and classy interior design to replace that of the outgoing generation. We assume smart entry and push button start will be standard on all of the trims. When it comes to interior materials, cloth of varying designs and colors will be available on the lower trims, while the EX-L, Sport-L, and Touring will have leather. We assume that memory seats will be available along with power seats on many of the trims.

Heading away from the seats you will find the new 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster as standard. All Accord buyers will be pleased to have either an 7 or range topping 12.3-inch display in the center of their cabin, much improved from the outgoing model. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard no matter what screen, as well as a back-up camera. The Accord is the first Honda product to have Google integration with over-the-air (OTA) updates.

Other features we were pleased to find in the Accord are an available 6-inch head-up display, a 12-speaker Bose Audio system, and wireless charging.

Rear Seat and Cargo

When it comes to rear amenities, we know that USBs should be standard. The Accord has always been a class leader on rear legroom, and we assume that will stay the same for this new generation. Another reward of the Accord’s jump in length comes in the cargo department, where it offers an impressive 16.7 cubic feet of trunk space.

Powertrain and Driving Impressions

Similar to the new Honda CR-V, the Accord line-up will be split between a standard non-hybrid and hybrid powertrain as follows:

  • LX, EX: 1.5L Turbo I-4: 192 hp | 192 lb.ft of torque
  • Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, Touring: 2.0L I-4 + elec: 204 hp | 347 lb.ft of torque

Unfortunately, the most powerful 2.0L Turbo 4 engine is being discontinued; however, we hope the hybrid powertrain has been updated to feel more sport oriented . A CVT for standard and eCVT for Hybrids will be the standard transmission. We reckon the fuel economy will be even better than the outgoing generation as well.

As for a test drive, we have yet to have full access to an actual model to drive. But stay tuned to the Car Confections YouTube channel and website for our driving impressions!
