Scoring Criteria
From reading thousands of comments our viewers have left on our channel; we developed a list of the most important categories for shoppers looking for a Luxury Compact SUV.
We have spent countless hours testing out each of these models, driving them over all types of terrain, testing the technology, sampling the space, and living with them. We then took the time to craft these rankings based off our experience into the following criteria categories.
Of course, consumer priorities do vary, so be sure to sort these categories and weigh them based on what’s most important to you.
#9: Lincoln Corsair
Though riding on a Ford Escape platform, Lincoln has done a great job differentiating the Lincoln Corsair from its mainstream platform mate. While rumored to be at the end of its production run, the Corsair still marches on as a comfy option, with a plush cabin filled with luxury features in every seat. This option also has Lincoln BlueCruise available, a unique and truly hands-free highway driving system. Additionally, with rising prices in this segment, most models can be had for a value-packed price. Though well-rounded, the Corsair scores lower in terms of reliability and resale, combined with its smaller size and aging elements throughout the vehicle. If Lincoln were to redesign this model, it would have a great shot of becoming a top option!
#8: Audi Q5
The newest Nissan Murano has put itself back into the running in this segment with its recent redesign. Now with a more futuristic look, this model also has continued luxury into this new generation. As expected, the Murano scores the best in terms of overall luxury, with exclusive features like massaging seats even offered and semi-analine leather. Complimenting the features is a new advanced dual display setup and lots of standard safety features. However, the Murano is not off-road capable, and is in need of a more refined hybrid powertrain, for more diversity.
#7: Buick Envision
While more of an underrated option in this segment, don’t shop this segment without giving the Buick Envision a good look! Recently redesigned, the Envision serves as a technology and value packed leader, with a single piece display, and even has more advanced tech than the now discontinued Cadillac XT4. Additionally, the Envision has good amounts of space and features, having room for the whole family. Many US buyers will be happy to know Buick is also planning to move production of this model to the United States very soon. With that move, we hope Buick will take the chance to elevate the cabin materials and powertrain choices to make this model even more competitive.
#6: Acura RDX
The Acura RDX has been a staple of the Acura lineup for many years now, and this well-rounded option is still performing well despite its age. Unfortunately, 2026 is the final model year for this generation, and we are expecting a brief hiatus while Acura works on cooking up the next rendition of RDX. Nonetheless, the RDX continues to offer straightforward value for a price much less than its competitors. It’s also quite spacious for the segment, which pairs well with its smooth Turbo-4 engine under the hood. If technology is the least of your concerns, the RDX might be a good one to grab while inventory lasts!

#5: Lexus NX
The Lexus NX has been a stylish option for many years now and has been a very popular choice in terms of reliability and the amount of unique powertrain choices, especially since it is one of the few in this segment with a true hybrid system. Lexus continues to expand the variety available to buyers as well, with a styling and engine option for almost any buyer. But, with many competitors growing quickly, the NX is still one of the smallest in the segment. Additionally, its cabin luxury still lags behind the competition, making many of its competitors comfier and more luxurious throughout. But if you’re looking for a comfortable crossover with lots of efficiency options, the NX might be a great choice for you!
#4: Mercedes GLC
The Mercedes GLC has been a powerhouse in the segment for many years, proving itself to be one of the most luxurious options. In fact, the GLC has some of the best materials in the segment, as well as the most diverse powertrain options, an option for most any buyer. This model also has high end technology and comfort, bringing the most German refinement out of any European offering within this segment. Finally, in typical Mercedes fashion, the luxury also flows to the rear seats, with features and space both offered. The biggest downfalls of the GLC include its resale and reliability, combined with not having every active safety feature as standard equipment, considering its higher price for the segment.
#3: Volvo XC60
Volvo has long-been a big player in this segment, with its very popular XC60 model. And, for this year, the XC60 is now refreshed with new tech and updated styling! This continues to have a variety of powertrain choices, including a very powerful 455hp PHEV T8. The Swedes also excel in terms of luxury, with plush materials, available crystal shifter, which pairs nicely with its new and larger display running the newest software for 2026. Overall, the XC60 is a really strong and well-rounded offering, but is held back most by its lower than average resale and reliability ratings.
#2: BMW X3
The BMW X3 was recently redesigned, which made this model an even stronger competitor within the segment. We love that BMW improved what they needed to and left alone most everything that this model already exceled in, such as its drive experience and powertrain selections. The X3 is now the largest in the segment with some of the best tech, running the newest version of iDrive. The only downfall of this new model are the materials in the cabin, which have taken a step back, despite attempted improvements this year from BMW.
#1: Genesis GV70
Leading the pack today is a model from an increasingly popular brand, truly making a name for itself with the Genesis GV70! With even more from its 2026 refresh, the GV70 shines in almost every category, from powertrain options, overall luxury, drive experience, and value. This model has something for most every luxury buyer, and its score reflects that! In the luxury space, its hard to find an option that is as well-rounded as this, and it shows that Genesis is a true luxury player. Though the GV70 is a more expensive option with fewer available packages, you truly get what you pay for with this segment winner!
Our “Do Not Buy” Option for 2026: Alfa Romeo Stelvio
Our Do Not Buy pick for 2026 is the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, which has its perks, but fails to score well in this luxury focused segment. One of the oldest offerings, with dwindling options as it nears the end of its life, the Stelvio lacks most in tech, with a small screen and very few premium options available, like a 360 camera or ventilated seats. So, while the Stelvio is still a blast to take down a back road, this option lacks the true luxury to be a strong competitor in this segment. We are hoping to see Alfa revive this product here very soon!

Close Calls for a Highly Competitive segment!
As you can see, the point values over these categories create many close calls, so you really can’t go wrong with any of these choices. As far as our personal picks, our team collectively agrees that the Genesis GV70 is one of the best options in the segment! However, is money is irrelevant, we would likely be going with a higher equipped model of the GLC or X3 with their high performance variants. Every competitor in this segment truly puts their best foot forward!
