With electric vehicles on the rise, we are seeing various automakers enter the market with their first BEV attempts. While some have chosen to stick to more traditional design cues, others, such as Hyundai, have decided to make things bold! We recently went to the LA Auto Show to check out the all-new Hyundai IONIQ 6, the second exclusive BEV in their line-up. So, is this 2023 IONIQ 6 as bold in practicality as it is style? Keep reading to find out!

Exterior Design and Features
The exterior design for the IONIQ 6 is completely different from any other car in the Hyundai line-up. The front design is very smooth and elegant, bringing forth bold style and better aerodynamics. Full LED headlights with an LED daytime running light will be standard in a new design. The mirrors come standard with heating and Blind Spot Monitoring and will be body colored, with the Limited offering power folding. For the wheels, the SE has an 18-inch alloys and the top trims have 20-inch alloys.
The side design of the IONIQ 6 continues to build on its sleek and aerodynamic design. There are even pop-out door handles to increase the airflow over the car. The design elements continue around to the rear of the vehicle, where Hyundai once again goes bold. The LED taillights have a pixelated effect that travels across the rear of the vehicle. The lower fascia has is again simple and sleek, with no exposed exhausts of course.
Hyundai continues to offer all of its standard safety systems with the Hyundai Sensing Suite:
- Forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, auto high beams, and adaptive cruise control
Paired with these safety features will be a Basic and Powertrain warranty, of which we are unsure to its extent yet.
Interior Design and Features
The bold design doesn’t stop once you get to the interior of this all-new IONIQ 6. As seen in many of the recent Hyundai products, there is a new and classy interior design. Smart entry and push button start will be standard on all of the trims. When it comes to interior materials, cloth of varying colors will be available on the base SE trim, while every other trim will have H-Tex, a sustainable material meant to mimic leather. Memory seats will only be available on the Limited trim.
Heading away from the seats you will find the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster as standard. All IONIQ 6 buyers will be pleased to have another 12.3-inch display in the center of their cabin. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard as well as a backup camera with parking guidance. Wireless charging is available on the top two trims.
Rear Seat and Cargo
When it comes to rear amenities, some number of vents and USBs should be standard. The IONIQ 6 seems like it is going to be a class leader in legroom figures, coming in at 34.7-inches. The IONIQ 6 isn’t the greatest when it comes to trunk space, coming in at 11.2 cubic feet. The frunk, if you could even call it that, is also quite small at .4 cubic feet.
Powertrain and Driving Impressions
The IONIQ 6 has all of its power from a batter electric motor, which has three different outputs depending on range and drivetrain:
- RWD Standard: 149 hp | 258 lb.ft
- RWD Extended: 225 hp | 258 lb.ft
- AWD Extended: 320 hp | 446 lb.ft
The IONIQ 6 will also have Rapid Charging abilities that can get up to 80% battery in only 18 minutes. The estimated range on the IONIQ 6 is about 340 miles, however this depends on the trim level you choose.

Pricing
Hyundai has not yet released the pricing of the IONIQ 6, but we expect it to be fairly affordable considering its competition.
We were quite impressed to see just how much value Hyundai was able to put into this bold, new IONIQ 6, and we can’t wait to get one back here at home to take it out for a drive! This IONIQ 6 seems like a winner for us!
