Remember, we cannot control the conditions in which we test 90% of our vehicles, so ratings can vary. But we make every effort to ensure each car is given a fair chance to get an accurate reading.

I question your sound meter device. For example, Kia Sportage Hybrid vs. the gas Sportage. The hybrid reading was 59.3 vs. the gas model at 54. Hybrids are generally quieter and this model hybrid has acoustic glass, more sound deadening material, etc than the gas model.. Though one year apart, the cars didn’t change.
There are many conditions that can cause a sound level reading to be different. For example, hybrid tires are more geared towards efficiency and can change sound level readings.
